1. AQUA-TNET News

Reminder: Calling all graduates and employers

This is a reminder to all Aqua-tnet members that the WP4 (New generic skills and competences approaches) questionnaires are still awaiting your reply. We are carrying out a survey to gather the views of teachers, stakeholders (industry and other employers), graduates and students (BSc, MSc, PhD and other) on the current provision of generic skills training at university level. In particular we would like to identify gaps in current training and to improve skills provision for the aquaculture, fisheries, marine sciences and management sectors.

We would like to thank all those who have participated in our survey so far and we would like to ask those of you who have not already completed the survey to please take a moment to do so. It should take around 10 minutes and your input will be used to identify priorities for the future provision of generic skills training. The teachers' and students' surveys are now closed but the graduates' and employers' surveys are still open.

New Call open for LarvaNet  STSM

The COST network "LarvaNet" is pleased to announce the fourth call for STSM applications. We encourage all potential applicants to consider the objectives of LarvaNet and to apply according to the STSM Guidelines. Missions which are approved for funding in this call have to be accomplished within the period from the 15th of November to the 31st of December 2010.

Call for applications: study visits for specialists and decision-makers in education and training

Are you a specialist or decision-maker in education or vocational training and would like to explore themes of common interest with your counterparts in other European countries or better understand specific aspects of another education and training system? Apply before 15 October 2010 for an EU grant to participate in study visits between March and June 2011. For more information please click here

Developing a European multilingual classification of jobs and skills (ESCO)

The European Commission is developing a European Skills, Competences and Occupations taxonomy (ESCO), which will describe the most relevant skills, competences and qualifications needed for several thousand occupations. ESCO is aimed at institutions and stakeholders in the labour market and education sector. Once finalised, ESCO will be the first classification of its kind available in all EU languages. Competition on language stories

In order to promote language learning, the European Commission is collecting attractive language experiences. The idea is to invite the people of Europe to share positive anecdotes showing the benefits of knowing languages. The authors of the best stories will be invited to Brussels in 2011. The EU Commission seeks your views on future education and youth programmes

The European Commission has started a public consultation on EU funding programmes in education, training and youth. Contribute with your opinion or experiences with the current Lifelong Learning Programme, Youth in Action and Erasmus Mundus and take part in the discussion about their future shape from 2014. FAO aquaculture publications 1999-2008

A USB pen drive containing all FAO aquaculture publications produced during the decade 1999-2008 has been recently produced by the Aquaculture Service of FAO. During the period 1999-2008, more than 500 aquaculture-related publications, including CD-ROMs, Web-based products and newsletters, were published and distributed worldwide, both in electronic and printed versions and in various FAO languages. These information resources have been assembled into a USB pen drive of 2GB, to be made available to FAO Member countries.
